Single Family Brownstone
3,600 Square Feet

Located on a tree-lined block in Carroll Gardens, this 19th-century brownstone has been reimagined as a welcoming home for a growing Brooklyn family. Working within the constraints of a narrow 18-foot-wide footprint, the full gut renovation prioritized bringing natural light into the core of the house. To achieve this, a large skylight was installed above the central stairwell, allowing light to cascade through all three main floors.

A refined material palette of white oak, walnut, and painted millwork creates a cohesive warmth throughout the home. In contrast, colorful encaustic tiles add a vibrant touch to the entry vestibule and bathrooms.

The interior elements take their cues from classic brownstone features, such as wood entry screens and curved banisters, while seamlessly incorporating contemporary elements for a modern yet timeless feel.
