In a tree-lined suburban neighborhood in San Anselmo, California, we were tasked with renovating a Craftsman-style home originally built in the 1950s. While the property is well-situated with distant views of Mt. Tamalpais, a series of additions over the years had obscured the clarity of the original layout, making circulation between rooms fragmented and confusing.

Our intervention introduces a series of screen walls to create a central entry hall, establishing a clear hierarchy among the different zones of the house. Repeated redwood boards and battens reference the Arts and Crafts construction of the original home while maintaining a pared-back, modern visual language.

Redwood screen walls frame a large central skylight, pushing and pulling the space between the various rooms.
