Guest and Pool House
5,000 Square Feet
Ridge View House was conceived as a balancing act—a response to the desire for a pool and guest house with westward views toward the ridge of Shenandoah National Park, while carefully preserving those same views from the main house situated uphill. The result is a design that is both assertive and recessive, harmoniously blending bold architectural gestures with subtle site integration.
To address this duality, the roof adopts the gable form of the main house but inverts it, creating a butterfly shape that ensures unobstructed views of the distant mountain peaks. Likewise, the pool and sundeck are thoughtfully sunken into the landscape, further minimizing visual impact.
The exterior spaces are framed by landscape walls and oversized brick columns that support the dramatic butterfly roof. This peristyle—a continuous porch of columns—encircles the house, offering shade and defining outdoor living areas, particularly useful during the warm summer months.
