The Timber House twists the arm of an ancient construction method (heavy timber frame) until it is dragged into the present. A vacation house for a San Francisco family, it is a meant to be a coming together of context and form. In this case, the form is driven directly by the means of construction, rather than the other way around.

Although typically the frame would live within the house (or more a likely barn), in this case, the frame is pushed to the outside and the interior space in contained within. Cross laminated wood panels allow for a level of prefabrication off site that can then be quickly erected within the timber frame.
